Berlin Community Radio x Stream Gallery

Last November we were very happy to make our way across the ocean and reach out to the friendly and talented individuals and collectives that are doing fun and exiting things. Aside of throwing some parties at Bossanova, Palisades (with the Discwoman crew who we are totally in love with btw!) and Elvis Guesthouse, we also could not help ourselves but do some radio!

The lovely Stream Gallery- an artist run space focusing on community and new media welcomed us to set up a temporary radio booth - we felt we were the match made in heaven and we had a great time doing radio with the bunch of Brooklyn's finest!

Below you can find the highlights of our trip:

"SHOTTAS NYC was a hybrid of ideas that began as late night back-of-the-gaybar conversations among young queer Caribbeans over familial island roots, empanadas vs. beef patties, the Puerto Rican Day and West Indian Day Parade festivities, and a longing for an authentic Reggae and Dancehall party that also provides a safe space for queer Caribbean young people. This longing made it apparent that there is a void to be filled. Artist Neon Christina (Chris Udemezue) and DJ and producer TYGAPAW (Dion Mac), both queer and Jamaican, recognized this void and decided to collaborate and curate SHOTTAS NYC, a creative space and platform that aims to highlight and unify this often overlooked and underrepresented community of young queer Caribbean creatives." - Listen to an interview with Chris & Dion and listen to a banging mix by TYGAPAW below:

In a recent wonderful feature, RA interviewed KUNQ - a New York based crew of artists. Go read it, while listening to KUNQ member's sets for BCR: SHYBOI, Rizzla & Battyjack are bound to make your thighs ache the next day from wining on your chair:

Founded by Frankie Hutchinson, Emma Burgess-Olson and Christine Tran, Discwoman is a New York-based platform and booking agency, representing and showcasing female-identified DJ talent in electronic music. Started as a two-day festival in September 2014 at Bossa Nova Civic Club Discwoman has since curated women DJ events and festivals in 10 cities—working with over 150 female-identified DJs and producers to-date. We were happy to welcome Bearcat, HD & Umfang over at our temporary radio booth:
